Population based neuroimaging concerns the analysis of large sets of brain images obtained in population studies.
The first role for neuroinformatics involves the identification of imaging biomarkers that allow prediction, early diagnosis or progress monitoring of diseases. In present day population studies, brain images are only one of many data modalities available.
The second role for neuroinformatics is to provide machine learning algorithms that can perform integrated analyses of these heterogenous data types.
The third role for neuroinformatics is to facilitate data sharing across institutes and study designs. This can result in better statistical significance of results, and re-use of data for purposes not anticipated in the original studies.
This workshop gives the floor to four established researchers who are directly involved in large, multimodal population studies. They will present study designs and an overview of how the data gets analyzed and integrated with existing knowledge. The workshop ends with a discussion on what services the neuroinformatics community should develop together with the medical centers to set the stage for scientific and medical progress.

Route to Poort van Kleef
Walk from Utrecht Central Station into shopping mall Hoog Catharijne, take a right after 50m at ABN-AMRO. Walk past the Albert Heijn, and leave the mall at exit 'Moreelsepark'. Go left, cross Catharijnesingel, continue for 150m on Mariaplaats, follow the right turn and find Grand Café Carré on the left hand side. Inside Café Carré there is a white door that hides the stairway to the Poort van Kleef meeting center.
